Shrimp Fra Diavolo
Featuring succulent shrimp cooked in a spicy tomato-based sauce. You can customize this dish by adding other seafood like scallops or mussels.
Ingredients
- 450 gram Peeled Deveined Shrimp
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt 1 gram
- 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
Sauce
- 140 gram Yellow Onion Chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic Minced
- 1 teaspoon Red pepper flakes Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to suit your spice preference. For a milder dish, reduce the amount, or omit them altogether.
- 234 gram/ml Chicken Broth 1 cup. Use dry white wine for an authentic restaurant flavor.
- 1 can Diced Fire Roasted Tomatoes 411 gram/ 14.5 oz
- 60 gram Tomato Paste
- 2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
For Serving (optional):
- Cooked pasta of your choice See notes for low calorie pasta
- 1 Chopped Chopped fresh basil or parsley for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Cook the shrimp:
- Season the shrimp with salt, pepper, and half the red pepper flakes.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Spray with cooking spray.
- Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
Make the Sauce:
- In the same skillet, spray with cooking spray.
- Add minced garlic and chopped onion. Sauté until the onion is softened and the garlic is fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
- Stir in the red pepper flakes and cook for another minute.
- Pour in diced tomato, Italian seasoning, and broth, stirring to combine.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
- Once the sauce has thickened, return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Toss the shrimp in the sauce until they are well coated.
- Allow the shrimp to simmer in the sauce for an additional 2-3 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Serve:
- Serve the Shrimp Fra Diavolo over cooked pasta of your choice.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
