Chicken Tikka Masala in the Slow Cooker
Chicken Tikka Masala often uses chicken thighs. In this recipe, you can use chicken breast thanks to the slow-and-low cooking method of using a slow cooker. The meat then becomes more flavorful and tender while being lean.

Ingredients
- 900 gram chicken breast
- 110 gram onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 4 gram fresh ginger
- 2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 0.5 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder or cayenne pepper or
- 0.5 teaspoon ground coriander
- 28 oz (1 can) crushed tomatoes
- 5 gram salt
- 170 gram light coconut milk
- 1 handful fresh cilantro, for garnish
Instructions
- Cut onion, mince garlic, and grate the ginger.
- Place a skillet over medium heat.
- Spray with non-stick spray and add the onion, cook for 4 minutes.
- Add the garlic, fresh ginger root, and dry spices. Cook for another 4 minutes.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes.
- Add the sauce to the chicken breast in the slow cooker.
- Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- Stir in the coconut milk.
- Serve over your favorite side dish topped with cilantro.
Notes
For an authentic tikka masala add 0.25 tsp cardamon to the spice mix.
